1N30.30 Collisions in One Dimension: Inelastic and Elastic Collisions on
an Air Track
Please click your browser's "back" icon to return to the Demo Master List
Instructions / Notes:
-
Two air track gliders have either a spring on 1 end
or a velcro pad.
-
For elastic collisions move one of the double spring gliders - using a slow but steady motion - towards
the second air track double spring glider, which should bed place in the center of the track.
-
For inelastic collisions repeat the above procedure, but use the two gliders with velcro pads - make sure the velcro
surfaces face each other.
-
The paired velcro carts should each have different colored writing, (i.e.
1 red lettering against 1 blue lettering).
-
Gliders show an equal mass collision of 1M vs. 1M - or -by adding 2 round weights to one of the gliders to show 2M vs. 1M.
-
At slow speeds this demonstration will function beautifully.
-
Demo Staff: Make sure the PASCO air track is leveled before before leaving the class.
-
Demo Staff: Notice the proper set-up for classroom use in the photo below.
