PIRA 2B20.15 - Static Pressure:
Pressure vs. Depth
Photo Shows the Apparatus Used at U.T. Austin

Instructions / Notes:
-
Demonstration shows the pressure of water is dependent on the height of
the water column above an opening in the glass tube.
-
A tall glass tube has three rubber stoppers at different heights on the tube is filled with colored water.
-
A drainage tank is provided and should be lined up correctly to catch each emitted stream.
-
The water pressure decreases as the the height of the water column above
each hole becomes lower.
Demo / Staff:
-
The ring stand for the glass column needs to be clamped to whichever table is used for this demo.
-
Also, it takes two staff members to either retrieve or place the glass column on top of the fluid mechanics cabinet.
-
it takes about 2 liters of colored water to fill the glass cylinder.
- Make sure the water is blue or green. Do NOT color yellow.
