Illusory Alignments

Here are four eye-baffling "alignment" illusions from the great Japanese master of illusion, Prof. Akioshi Kitaoka.

You appear to see a central square in the design that is tilted with respect to the rest of the pattern. In fact, using a straight-edge, you can confirm that all parts of the design are aligned perfectly with the horizontal and vertical!

We appear to see a spiral pattern formed of small squares. Look very closely and you will be able to see that the pattern has no spirals at all, but rather consists of concentric circles!!

The faint bands are marked at intervals with distinctive black-white "sticks." They are clearly not parallel to one another.   But look more closely... in fact they ARE precisely parallel across the entire image.  Use a straight-edge to confirm.

A really strong version of this effect! The squares in the center visibly bulge outward toward the viewer. But they don't. All the squares in the image are perfectly aligned along horizontal and vertical directions; no square is deformed.
