An example of incident v=1 j=2 deuterium scattered from a Cu(100) surface. After the incident peak there are three scattered peaks. This shows elastic scattering in the v=1 j=2 state as well as rotationally inelastic scattering in the v=1 j=4 and v=1 j=0 state. | ||

The probability of elastic and rotationally inelastic scattering was measured for a range of incident energies. |
