2011 Workshop and User Meeting on Fundamental Science using Pulsed Power and High Power Lasers

Workshop Details

A workshop to discuss fundamental science experiments that are being, and could be, undertaken on the pulsed power and laser facilities at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and the University of Texas (UT).  A user meeting, in which current and prospective users can present their research, and hear plans for user access, planned experiments, facility capabilities, and facility schedules. Up to 15% of the shot time on the Z facility is now available for fundamental science.   The workshop is being held under the auspices of the Institute for High Energy Density Science, joint between UTX and SNL.

Objective

1.  Provide existing Z-facility and UT-laser fundamental science working groups a venue to meet to discuss data, and to prepare for future experiments.   Where appropriate, grow the working groups.
2.  Present and discuss new ideas and opportunities for fundamental science, and where appropriate initiate new working groups
3.  Present facility capabilities and planning for fundamental science

Location and Dates

The meeting will be held on Thursday, July 28, Friday, July 29, and Saturday, July 30 (half day) at the Eldorado Hotel & Spa.  In addition, there will be a reception on the evening of Wednesday, July 27(travel day).
