PIRA 1G10.50 Force, Mass, and Acceleration: Multiple Pulleys
Photos show the demonstration used by the University
of Texas at Austin.
Concepts Conveyed:
- Pulley efficiency, mechanical advantage, and tangential and angular speed.
- Tension, center of gravity, work/energy of the pulley system, and the mechanics of a wheel and axel using the 4-step pulley.
Instructions / Notes:
- This pulley system comes with 8 single pulleys, 2 double sheave pulleys, 6 collars and hooks, a 4-step pulley (wheel and axel), 9 masses, and a vertical rod.
- If you wish to include a spring scale with this demo, please add a note to your request.
Demo Staff:
- DO NOT attempt to transport pulley system into classroom when masses and pulleys are already hanging from bar. They will fall off and potentially break.
