PIRA 1G10.50 Force, Mass, and Acceleration: Multiple Pulleys
Photos Shows the Demonstration Apparatus Used by the University
of Texas at Austin
Instructions / Notes:
- This demo can be used to convey following concepts: pulley efficiency, mechanical advantage, and tangential and angular speed.
- Pulleys may also be used to convey: tension, center of gravity, work/energy of the pulley system, and the mechanics of a wheel and axel using the 4-step pulley.
- Faculty: This pulley system comes with 8 single pulleys, 2 double sheave pulleys, 6 collars and hooks, a 4-step pulley (wheel and axel), 9 masses, and a vertical rod.
- If you wish to include a spring scale with this demo, please add a note to your request.
- Demo staff: DO NOT attempt to transport pulley system into classroom when masses and pulleys are already hanging from bar. They will fall off and potentially break.
